We’re extremely happy to be back. Since the beginning of the school year, we’ve competed at both the Yale and New York City invitational nationals! A big thank you to all Stuy judges and parents who helped out (and our amazing teammates), and a huge congratulations to everyone who competed!
We also had a great interest meeting and try outs, with over 200 novices joining our team, growing our team to over 350 members strong. We look forward to growing our team and S&D family!
As a reminder, our kickoff meeting will be next Tuesday (October 29th). If you have not received an email regarding the event, please check your spam folder! An email by Ashley Lo (qlo50@stuy.edu) was sent out last week about it. Please also mark her email address (along with jlin56@stuy.edu and hmancini50@stuy.edu) as safe senders, so you receive any emails we send out in the future! The Eventbrite to sign up for the kickoff (which both parents and students should attend) is linked here.

Team Updates
Extemp:
This fall season, Extemp has been on a roll! Junior Myles Vuong placed 7th at the NYC Invitational and as an octafinalist at Yale. The team has had a fun time taking photos, bonding (and competing, of course)! On the local circuit, Extemp has swept the board with Sophomore Melanie Xie fully qualifying and Sophomores Nuoyan Chen and Caitlyn Chan half qualifying for the JV State Championship.
Public Forum:
Public forum excelled at states, placing 2nd overall! In novice, freshmen Lander Bovenzi, Nara Kong, Anika Chandran, and Amani Kaushal were all semifinalists, while freshmen Adrien Devery-Michaelson and Ethan Zheng made it to quarterfinals! Also, freshmen Evan Goodman and Ziv Barel made it to elimination rounds. Congratulations to all of the novices for qualifying and making it so far! In intermediate, sophomores Eric Liu and Benjamin Yarden placed 2nd in the state! Sophomores Jasmine Liang and Solomon Binyaminov were semifinalists as well. Finally, in varsity, juniors Astrid Harrington and Helen Mancini advanced to quarterfinals. At Big Bronx, sophomores Jasmine Liang and Solomon Binyaminov broke to runoffs, while the rest of the team had a ton of fun! We’re so proud of all of the work our team has put in, and we can’t wait to see what next year will bring!
Congress:
Stuy Congress had a fantastic showing at Yale! Seniors Daniel Prizant and Jia Lin advanced to the Semi-Finals, each earning a plaque and a bid to the Tournament of Champions. Juniors Sebastian Tecza, Louis Oh-Aronson, Ellis Thompson, and Raymond Chen all delivered impressive performances, competing strongly against some of the best in the nation. A special shout-out to Stuy Congress alum and former Co-Captain Olivia Woo for stopping by to judge and spend time with the team! At Big Bronx, Congress had an amazing showing, sweeping the competition with five teammates making finals! Juniors Ellis Thompson (3rd), Louis Oh-Aronson (17th) and Max Abraham (19th) did exceptionally well, especially against seniors from across the country! Senior Jia Lin also made finals, ranking 11th, while senior Daniel Prizant championed the entire tournament! We look forward to continuing a great debate record this year!
Lincoln Douglas:
LD had a great start to the debate year at both Yale and Big Bronx! At Yale, senior Daniel Zheng was a varsity double octofinalist and JV members Emma Lin (octofinalist), Mufei Yu (6th speaker) and Evelyn Lifton (11th speaker) had an amazing showing as well! Senior Daniel Zheng was 6th speaker and double-octofinalist at Big Bronx, even amidst incredibly skilled competitors!

At Big Bronx, Aruna Vaithilingam and Amrit Das broke to Octo-finals. We look forward to even more successes at future tournaments and are prepping accordingly!
