Welcome to the fourth update this school year and the first one of 2025! We hope you’ve had an amazing New Year’s and back to school.
Even during break, Stuyvesant Speech and Debate have been hard at work, practicing and preparing for the upcoming packed debate season. We look forward to seeing our team members’ work pay off, especially in the upcoming local tournaments!

Team Updates
Extemp:
This weekend, Extemp had a stellar showing at Chaminade Invitational! Congratulations to sophomore Caitlyn Chan, placing as Champion in JV Extemp. Sophomores Abiyan Alam and Edison Jiang received half qualifications for the state tournament with Joya Liu and Alina Dong also placing as finalists. We are practicing often in preparation for our tournament at Regis next week!
Public Forum:
To top off the end of 2024, PF had a very jolly time at the Christmas Chlassic. In the Novice Division, congratulations to freshmen Arya Rajda and Calista Harrington who finished in 3rd place, along with Kenneth Han and Samiha Azad who finished in 7th! In addition, shoutout to Anna Schaible who received the 2nd place in overall speaker awards! We decked the halls of Regis High School and we’re so excited to get going once more in January.
Congress:
Stuy Congress completely dominated both Christmas Chlassich and Chaminade! At Chlassich, Our novices performed wonderfully in House, with Freshman Alice Frank and Sophomore Troye Kim breaking to finals, where Alice placed 3rd and secured a half qualification to states. In the Senate, our seasoned debaters flexed their muscles, with Senior Jia Lin and Juniors Timothy Louie and Raymond Chen all breaking to finals and securing half qualifications, placing 5th, 6th, and 7th respectively!
Continuing off our great run at Chlassich, Stuy Congress doubled down with spectacular results at Chaminade! There, Senior Daniel Prizant, Juniors Louis Oh-Aronson, Sebastian Tecza, and Raymond Chen, Sophomore Ilmah Sattar, and Freshman Charlie Vater all advanced to the finals, making up 1/4th of the entire congress finals pool. Among them, Daniel, Louis, and Raymond earned half qualifications to states with incredible performances: Raymond in 8th, Louis in 4th place, and Daniel championing.
Lincoln Douglas:
At the NYCFL Christmas Chlassich, LD once again had a strong showing with multiple entries going 2-1. Novice Chloe Wang moved up to the JV division and finished in third place to get a half qualification for states. Chloe also placed second in speaker awards. In Novice LD, Emily Harsono, Ethan Chen, and Yuming Chen earned 4th, 5th, and 6th speaker respectively. Stuy LD is looking forward to even more successes in the new year!
Parli:
Stuy Parliamentary have been both working hard and playing hard during the break. As the team practices for the various tournaments in the upcoming months, more and more members are improving quickly! We are looking forward to competing in, and winning, many tournaments in January, to continue this school year’s string of victories!
Policy:
Policy rocked it at Gonzaga University this weekend! Despite the technical issues with debating online, ALL of our teams broke. In varsity, Rahul Kissoon and Kassandra Sinchi made it to octafinals, even beating a nationally ranked team along the way! Salioudian Barry and Serenity Dingwall also made it to octafinals before losing on a close 2-1 decision. Stuy Policy is working hard to continue the great record into January.
Speech:
This weekend, Speech SWEPT at the Chaminade Invitational, taking 2nd place in team sweepstakes! Sophomore Ananya Gupta earned half qualifications in Declamation and JV Oral Interpretation, winning 7th and 4th place, respectively. In Original Oratory, Junior Amanda Greenberg earned a half qualification in 7th place. In Varsity Oral Interpretation, Senior Prajusha Azeem won 6th place and Junior Ariana Lin won 5th place, both earning half qualifications. In Dramatic Performance, Lily Wagman won 8th place, and in Programmed Oral Interpretation, Junior Olivia Cisse won 5th place. We are so proud of everyone for their hard work and we look forward to next weekend’s tournament at Regis!
