Team Updates
Public Forum:
Last weekend, Public Forum competed at Bronx High School, with Lander Bovenzi + Benjamin Volovik going UNDEFEATED, and the team of Ethan Zheng + Adrien Devery-Michaelson with a winning record! Looking ahead, our novices will be competing in their FIRST debate competition next week at the Brown Invitational! The rest of the team is focused on prepping the new topic for the November tournaments.
Policy:
Policy had a great time at our first Online Policy League tournament of the year! After some technical difficulties, our 3 novice teams powered through, with Ginwan Elfaki and Serenity Dingwall placing 6th team and Seoyeon Yu placing 3rd speaker! We are so proud of our novice teams and looking forward to our next tournament.
Lincoln Douglas:
Last weekend, LD competed at the Bronx CFL! This was the first-ever tournament for our novices, and they did excellent! Freshmen Archana Ovitigala, Mufei Yu, and Alexis Qian all achieved an impressive 2-1 record! And freshman Evelyn Lifton was UNDEFEATED, going 3-0! We're so proud of the work that our wonderful novices and their directors have put in, and are thrilled to see what this season holds!
Congress:
Last weekend, Congress competed at the Hugh McEvoy tournament at Bronx Science! This was our novices' first tournament, and they all did amazingly! We had five competitors advance to finals: juniors Danny Akhmedov, Jiawen Lin, and Alexa Pikramenos, as well as sophomore Sebastian Tecza and junior Daniel Prizant who received state half-qualifications!
Speech:
Speech competed at the Hugh McEvoy Memorial Tournament at Bronx Science last weekend! We did great - 4th overall team - with novice Ananya Gupta in 8th place and novice Noshin Torsa in 11th place in JV Oral Interpretation. In Dramatic Performance, sophomore Audrey Hilger placed 4th, and novice Micah Beirne placed 5th. Congratulations to everyone who competed!
Parliamentary:
Parli is looking forward to two upcoming tournaments, one this weekend online and one on November 4th / 5th in-person! For this week’s meetings, we are going over organization, strategies, and practice rounds. With this practice, we will give it our all next weekend!
Extemp:
GO JV! Extemp flooded last weekend’s CFL with the novices, along with the Thursday BDL. All non-competitors participated by spectating and taking notes.
Big congrats to…
Julinda Dimnaku! (4th in Novice Extemp)
Myles Vuong! (3rd in JV Extemp, Fully Qualified for the state championships!)
Ashley Lo! (8th in JV Extemp)
Caitlyn Chan! (13th in JV Extemp)
Justin Ha! (4th in Varsity Extemp, Half Qualled for states!)
Big congrats to everybody, especially those who went in-person for the very first time. We’ll use this experience to further strengthen the team for future locals!
