Dear Speech and Debate Families,
Welcome back! Last week, our teams returned from spring break recharged and ready to finish the season off strong. This upcoming week, many of our teams will be competing at the New York State Championships at Bronx Science and Scarsdale. Good luck to all those competing!

Team Updates
Congress:
Stuy Congress is back from spring break relaxed and ready to rumble! We are excited to send 10 team members to the NYSFL State Championship next weekend, where we’ll compete against faces old and new. As the season draws to a close, we want to commend every single member of our team for all of the hard work they’ve put in this year. It’s been full of many challenges but also lots of fun, and we are looking forward to what next year may bring!
Extemp:
The 11 state-qualified extempers are hard at work as they get in their practice speech quotas! We congratulate them on their quals and wish them luck this weekend at Bronx Sci (and hopefully, at Scarsdale the next day). The team has been reviewing current events and cheering on its members both for this season and the next. Looking further ahead, we wish all of our CFL and NSDA Nationals competitors the best of luck both during the AP season and after it!
Lincoln Douglas:
This week LD is preparing to go to States! We have five people going in total, including 3 varsity and 2 novices. The novices have also been continuing to learn progressive debate and preparing for debate camp this summer. We’re looking forward to a strong end to the season, and can’t wait to continue improving over the next few months of the offseason!
Parliamentary:
This week, Parli participated in NYPDL April, the third-to-last tournament of the year! It was a great tournament, and Hannah Riegel won 4th place speaker. In addition to practice rounds, Rodda, our coach, delivered a lecture on economics (topics such as stocks, debt, and borrowing). As the season wraps up, Parli is preparing for NYPDL April Online and the upcoming NYPDL Championship!
Policy:
Policy had a great week preparing for our “Everything Policy” crash course that will take place next Tuesday! The varsity debaters will be teaching more complex arguments to the JV, and the JV will be reviewing the basics with the novices. The goal of this meeting is to review the foundations so that we can start officially strategizing for next year. We are also prepping for Grands CFLs outside of meetings and are extremely excited to be sending 3 teams!
Public Forum:
Public Forum had a great time this week at the April topic lecture! Everyone’s been gearing up for the upcoming State Championships with case writing, competitive drills, and practice rounds. Wish us good luck for the 8 PF teams competing at States!
Speech:
Speech this week is ramping up for the State Championships this weekend! With practices daily for our 11 states-bound competitors, look forward to the team’s performance at States.
