Team Updates

Congress:

As the weather is cooling and classes wind down for winter break, Stuy Congress came to Christmas Chlassich with some extra holiday spirit! We had a total of 8 finalists, with four of the top 6 at the tournament from Stuyvesant. The finalists: freshman and novice Lyla Storm, sophomore Raymond Chen, junior Yoonha Shim, and 5 members receiving half-qualifications for the state championships: juniors Alexa Pikramenos and Jia Lin, and seniors William Tang, Olivia Woo, and Sarah Diaz. All in all, Stuy Congress took Christmas Classich by storm! We are so proud of our competitors for one of our best tournaments yet, and are looking forward to returning after the break!

Lincoln Douglas:

StuyLD had another strong showing at the Christmas Chlassich last weekend! We had a total of 9 entries, of which novices Alexis Qian and Evelyn Lifton both achieved a 3-0 record and were UNDEEATED! Furthermore, novices Kiren Sitwala, Ethan Shi, Mufei Yu, and William Zhang all had a positive record of 2-1! We're so proud of our novices for all of the incredible work they've put in, and we're looking eagerly to see them excel at future tournaments such as the upcoming Columbia Invitational or Bump tournament!

Policy:

Last weekend, Policy attended Online Policy League 3, which was a tremendous success! In JV Policy, congrats to Kass and Rahul for being 1st and 2nd place speakers respectively, and winning 3-0, making them 1ST place team in the JV pool! Shout out to our 3rd place team in JV Policy, Luca and Ziying! In Novice Policy, Serenity and Ginwan placed 2nd, going undefeated with 3-0! Serenity and Ginwan placed 3rd and 6th place speaker, respectively. Finally, congrats to Ayeman, Samiul, Caleb, and Mia A. for making it through their first tournament! We look forward to Lexington after the break!

Public Forum:

Novices take on Christmas Chlassich! Benjamin Volovik (1st place speaker) and Lander Bovenzi (5th place speaker) take 4th place! Evan Goodman and Ziv Barel take 8th place! Ethan Zheng (11th place speaker) and Adrien Devery Michaelson take 13th place! Noa Salas and Nafis Mahim take 21st!

Parliamentary:

Stuy Parli absolutely crushed it at Dalton last weekend! Adina Salant placed 6th and Adrian Turkedjiev placed 10th in Varsity Speaker Awards. In the Varsity division, Adrian Turkedjiev made it to Varsity Quarters in a hybrid team. In the novice division, a grand total of SIX novice teams made it to elim rounds: Carter Kuo & Frieda Kuehlmann, Emma Musyuk & Ella Dugdale, Katelyn Huang & Melody Qu all made it to Novice Octos, and Paul Stipp & Alexander Georgatos, Serafina Demarco & Michaela Madanire, and Anna Lyzhyn & Gervita Singh made it to Novice Quarters! We could not be prouder of how far our team has come and we look forward to even more success in the new year!

Speech:

Speech is winding down 2023 with practice as usual and the Speechmas party on 12/22! Special congratulations to Xili Chen in Declamation on getting her first half-qual for States at the last BDL tournament, and look forward to our next big tournament at Chaminade on 1/6!

Extemp:

Extemp is gearing up for the tournament-heavy month of January. With new practice requirements, we aim to get our JVers and Varsity members qualled out soon with goals set on Chaminade in a few weeks. Varsity in particular is readying itself for UPenn and Harvard in February, while Eshaal Ubaid is preparing for the Montgomery Bell Round Robin, a highly prestigious tournament in which only 16 of the best extempers across the country are invited! As we celebrate the holidays this Friday, we aim to continue crushing it on the circuit.
