Team Updates

Lincoln Douglas:

Last weekend, our Lincoln Douglas team went to Cougar and WON! In the novice division, we had two semi-finalists, Alexis Qian and Evelyn Lifton, and a CHAMPION! Congratulations to Mufei Yu for winning the tournament and placing as the top speaker! We are so proud of the incredible work our novices have put in to earn their well-deserved wins and success. Additional congratulations to Ethan Shi in the novice division and Yuna Lee in the varsity division for achieving an even record. We look forward to the upcoming Bump Memorial tournament and Columbia Invitational in the coming weeks!

Speech:

Last Saturday, Speech went to the Chaminade Invitational and excelled! The team placed 2nd overall, with Amanda Greenberg CHAMPIONING Declamation, Audrey Hilger placing 2nd in Dramatic Performance, Ariana Lin placing 6th and qualifying for States in JV Oral Interpretation, and finalists Amanda Greenberg, Sofia Lawrence, and Ananya Gupta placing 10th, 12th, and 15th in JV Oral Interpretation respectively. Additionally, Ethan Saldanha placed 8th in Declamation, and Prajusha Azeem, Renae Leung, and Erica Liu placed 4th, 5th, and 7th in Varsity Oral Interpretation respectively. A massive congratulations to all of our competitors for a fantastic performance, and we look forward to upcoming invitationals in February!

Congress:

Stuy Congress had a great time at the Chaminade Invitational last week! At a tournament filled with varsity competitors, sophomores Louis Oh-Aronson and Raymond Chen placed 3rd and 10th and both received half-qualifications to the state championship. We are so proud of everyone who competed, and look forward to the invitational tournaments in the coming weeks!

Extemp:

Last weekend, Extemp sent over 30 students to Chaminade, with Nusaibah Karim coming in 14th place! At the same time, in Nashville, Tennessee, captain Eshaal Ubaid competed in the Montgomery Bell Round Robin, placing 16th in the nation. With new feedback and ideas in the air, our team is more excited than ever to compete, and we can’t wait for the upcoming NYCFL, UPenn, and Harvard tournaments in February!

Parliamentary:

Stuy Parli had a great time debating at the NYPDL January Online tournament last weekend! A special congratulations to Adrian Turkedjiev for advancing to Quarter-finals in the varsity division. Looking forward, we are planning more practice rounds and content lessons in the upcoming weeks to prepare for NYPDL January in person at Horace Mann!

Public Forum:

PF had an incredibly fun and informative lecture last week from alums Edward Kemelmakher and Erica Lung! As we shift gears to February, the team has begun preparing the new topic: The US federal government should ban single-use plastics. Looking ahead, PF is beyond excited for the invitationals at Harvard and UPenn next month!

Policy:

Last week, Policy focused on building our cases to prepare for upcoming tournaments. JV and Varsity worked on research and argumentation, and Novices had a Q&A. Although this was a less competitive week, we learned a lot and look forward to challenging our competition at UPenn!
